Time for Progressive Pot Party to Counter Tea Party

One year into the Obama administration and many progressive voters are having “buyer’s remorse.” We are not getting the change we believed in and voted for.    We need to do more to increase awareness and support for a truly progressive agenda.  One great place to start is by ending the unethical and ineffective war against marijuana.

Where is the progressive outrage and protest needed to counteract the growing tea party movement?  Now is the time to stand up and be heard about the real problems we face that go beyond economics and health care.  This is a call for concerned citizens to create and foster a Progressive Pot Party.  Learn how to do it and share your ideas by leaving comments.

Hippest Communities Create the Happiest Citizens

We are all influenced by the people and places where we live. In particular, research shows that the communities we live in shape our ability to pursue and attain real happiness.  My own professional interests have always included a focus on community development and creativity.   After living and traveling to some great places, I am able to identify and describe some real differences that can only be found by experiencing life in different communities.  I hope this will help you gain insights into what are the best and worst places for you to live.

This article represents a renewed emphasis and focus for The HipHappy Times.  From now on, most of my writing will be focused on how to get and stay happy.  I will focus on the role of social institutions on quality of life for individuals and communities.  I hope you enjoy and learn.  My first is a tribute to my relatively new (two years) hometown of Carrboro, NC. Learn about what makes a community cool and creative by reading my entertaining and educational Powerpoint presentation about why as Jim Morrison said  “The West is the Best – Get Here and We will do the Rest.”

Get Involved to Recreate “Spirit of 1968”

For over 20 years I have researched and written about the need for and mechanisms of social change. The Democratic National Convention in Denver brings back various visions and views of the 1968 convention in Chicago.  For perspective, I was 16 and living an hour from downtown Chicago when things started happening.  Several friends and I were stopped on the expressway from entering the downtown area.  We went home and missed the action.  I am also going to miss this years conventions because I have no funds and must do my thing here in North Carolina.

I have written earlier about the massive social movement that Obama has catalyzed. This article brings you the latest in plans, politics and philosophy from the social activists .  I urge anyone who is close by to join the cause of taking back our country.  Denver (and Minneapolis next week) are both among our most tolerant and progressive cities – visited each a few times.   Also read about Denver’s lax laws on smoking marijuana.  It is our country and we must make sure that Obama-Biden fulfill our needs and their promises!!  The whole world will truly be watching – just as they were in 1968.

Bill and Hillary Clinton are desperate to hang on to their dreams of a second Dynasty. However, there is no way she can win by following the rules (accepting the will of the people.) Dr. King’s Legacy Requires Activism Not Pacifism

Today, April 4, 2008 is the 40th Anniversary of the death of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It’s a day to reflect on King’s largely unfinished work for justice and equality. I want to speculate about what King would say and do about today’s issues had he not been assassinated in 1968. King would still be fighting against racism, poverty and war. In particular, he would be leading the criticism of the United States – not just for our involvement in Iraq but for the whole way in which corporations have taken over the global economy. Obama Movement has Massive Momentum

The Obama political campaign clearly qualifies as a social movement that is larger than the sum of its parts. After the past week’s landslide victories in eight states by double-digit margins, it is clear to me and others that Barack Obama will be the Democratic candidate and ultimately president of the United States. Obama has brought many new people – especially youth – into the political process. At the same time, the lemmings are leaping off the sinking Clinton ship and the wheels are falling of McCain’s straight-talk express.
